Social & Educational Advancement

Education is a pivotal point of our program. Every day, each camper is expected to do his summer reading. If his school has not assigned him summer reading, he will be allowed to choose a book of his liking and read it by the end of camp. In addition, each day, or on alternating days, the campers attend a one-hour class that focuses on academics. This class covers a variety of topics including SAT verbal review, reading comprehension, and geography. Each camper is encouraged to strive to become one of their school’s top students and to eventually graduate with honors.

Our emphasis on academics is not only to ensure personal growth and success, but also to increase each camper’s eligibility for scholarship opportunities. Each year, institutions such as Bentley University, Stonehill College, Northern Michigan University and others award full scholarships to selected campers who have completed five years at the camp. We select our scholars based on their character and their grades. West Point and the United States Naval Academy also recruit our campers. These relationships are a part of the fabric of the camp that creates life-changing opportunities for our young men.

Music is a major part of the Ron Burton Training Village. Our young men love to sing.  Self respect, creativity and discipline are important values taught at RBTV through the Village Vocals program.  Some of our campers are gifted musicians, song writers and singers and the RBTV choir gives them the opportunity to enhance and explore their talents. RBTV employs a music director during the summer program.  Our music program is integrated throughout our daily schedule and provides a unique, exuberant opportunity for our kids to express themselves in a fun, uplifting environment.  At RBTV we carefully select songs that are peaceful and evoke kind, caring thoughts.  We also expose the campers to a variety of Broadway, Country and Classical music. The songs we sing have a powerful way of transforming our kids and many continue singing the songs long after camp ends. All of the campers participate in the RBTV choir.
