A Decade as Hill Holliday’s Chief Executive A pioneering executive who spent ten years at the helm of iconic ad agency Hill Holliday, Karen worked her way from receptionist to Chair & CEO over four decades, honing broad executive management experience and financial and operational expertise. An innovative leader, Karen has advised businesses and counseled some of the world’s most recognizable brands including Anheuser Busch, Bank of America, BMW, Chili’s, CVS Health, Dunkin’, Johnson & Johnson, Liberty Mutual, Novartis and Verizon. Honored by Business Insider, Campaign U.S. and Ad Age as one of the most influential women in advertising, Karen’s leadership and vision have helped clients achieve brand and business success and driven agency growth. Over 20 Years of Board Experience In addition to her tenure at Hill Holliday, Karen has held many public, private and nonprofit board and leadership positions. Her corporate board experience spans over twenty years and includes serving as Trustee of Fidelity Investments Strategic Advisers Funds, Trustee of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Director of Michaels Stores, Director of Vera Bradley, Director of DentaQuest and Director of ADVO. Her experience includes serving on Audit and Compliance Committees, Compensation Committees and Chairing Nominating and Governance Committees. Karen’s long agency career and extensive board experience have made her highly adept at navigating complex, fast-paced and often heavily regulated businesses through rapidly evolving environments. She has served on public company boards with founders and private equity sponsors, and through mergers, acquisitions, major business transitions and brand repositionings. Business, Civic and Economic Leadership A business thought leader and trailblazer, Karen currently serves on the Board of Governors of Chief Executives Club of Boston, Executive Board of Advisors of Ron Burton Training Village and as Trustee of Friends of Post Office Square. Karen has also served as Board Secretary for the Ad Council, Director of The Ad Club, Advisory Council Member of NACD New England, Board of Leaders of 2020 Women on Boards, Corporate Board Resource Committee of The Boston Club, Director of Jobs for Mass, Executive Committee of Mass Business Roundtable, Director of Massachusetts Conference for Women, Co-Chair, Governor’s Jobs and the Economy Transition Team, Governor’s Economic Development Planning Council and Mayor’s Task Force to End Individual Homelessness. Notably, she was the second woman to Chair the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce in its 139-year history and served as President of the Massachusetts Women’s Forum. Karen was the recipient of The New England Council New Englander of the Year Award, has been inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Bostonians and the YWCA Boston Academy of Women Achievers, and holds three honorary doctorate degrees.
