Bob graduated with honors from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1978 with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. In 1980, he graduated with honors from Stanford University with a master’s degree in electrical engineering and computer science.
Bob started his career at Hewlett Packard’s Scientific Instruments division where he was a member of a Research and Development team that developed the first bench-top blood analyzer in the industry.
After HP, Bob joined Philips Research Laboratories, where he earned five patents and published papers on a variety of technical topics that include magnetic bearings, robotics, and control systems.
In 1986, Bob joined Bose as a senior research engineer for the Bose suspension research Corporation and became the program’s chief research engineer in 1996. He has earned multiple patents at Bose and has worked on numerous projects related to advanced control systems, electromagnetic actuators, and sensor technology.
In 1997, Bob was named general manager of the Noise Reduction Technology Group, responsible for teams developing Headphone technology for the military, aviation and consumer business. In 2002, he was promoted to vice president of Bose’s largest business, the Home Entertainment Division, leading its entry into digital music with SoundDock® systems, and expanding the company’s home theater system product line.
In June of 2005, Bob was appointed President of Bose Corporation by Dr. Amar Bose. In September 2013, the Bose Board of Directors appointed him Chief Executive Officer and President of Bose Corporation.
In January of 2018, Bob retired from his role as Chief Executive Officer and President of Bose Corporation and continued in his role as Chairman of the Board.
In January of 2020, Bob returned from retirement when the Board of Directors appointed him Executive Chairman. Bob led the company through 2020 as the company searched for a new CEO and as the company faced numerous challenges related to the global Covid pandemic.
In January 2021, after finding a new CEO, Bob continued his role as chairman of the board and continues to serve Bose Corporation as Trustee and Chairman today.
